The pocket knife.

Built in 3ds max, rendered in vray.

Looking at some old work, I came across some life drawing work. Mostly charcoal.

Since i'm kinda on a roll with this whole solidworks/3ds max modeling deal, i modeled an old remote control I found lying around the house. It's an old charter cable remote, was lazy to give it any textures, maybe next time!

The Audi r8 is such a cool car. After a couple of weeks of modeling, it's finally finished. The vehicle was modeled using Solidworks 2008... but since SW has such a crappy renderer, I imported it to 3ds max and vray-ed it. Big thanks to Daniel Lavoie for the tutorial help!

Hello everyone... long time - no post. I've been busy lately doing some 3d... sharpening my solidworks/3ds max deal. For this one, I measured and fully modeled iPhone 2G. I like the 2g's design the best. The aluminum back looks and feels great.

As it turns out, the Squidolin seems to have been pretty popular among the design blogs, it's everywhere and in many languages... thanks first to Notcot.com, and last night to YankoDesign.com which featured me on the main page... thanks guys/gals!

I'm glad that people seem to be responding positively to the Squidolin.  It reassures me that it will sell when it's fully functional.  Thanks to Notcot for their publicity!

I just finished doing an update on www.crmendez.com. Among the changes are 5 beauty shots per product using Lightbox javascript.  Hope you enjoy it. :)

Yesterday I took some pictures of my new violin... The Squidolín!  I drove around burbank and pasadena to get the right shots.  Hopefully you like.  The images and project will be posted on my website CRMENDEZ.COM soon!

Making stuff...

As I read more about people like James Dyson and Steve Jobs, I've been reflecting about the culture of designers.

How designers create products of desire, yet often cannot afford to buy them.  Or how we are trained to serve the needs of somebody willing to pay for our service.  How can we be leaders of a new world if we are told that our job is to work for those that want to hire us, even if the job sucks.

I see my graduating class mates, and I see a lot of potential.  Great amount of skills that I have seen put through all-nighters, bad nutrition, frustration and sickness.  We could do anything if we were unified.  If it wasn't because of school loans, we would be free to make the things we want to make.  I wish there were people that invested in graduating students and treated them like professionals, not roockies.  I wish the school would of have a program that would hire students to design things for the school, instead of hiring some expensive reputable firm.

Any way, back to my point... Reading about great people teaches you that you gotta follow your heart.  My heart lies in making great products for people.  My goal isn't making the stock value of a company greater, it's to create those things that our memorable, those experiences you never forget... like your first Nintendo console.

This has also got me to think of my age.  Soon I'll be 27.  I'm leaving my mid-20 what I feel are the prime years.  It's with all these factors that I will begin Mendez Design Group.  A firm that researches, designs and creates products for the world and it's inhabitants.  It's motive... to empower designers by developing and producing ideas.  Ideas that don't just exist for the sake of existing but serve a greater purpose.

Lost 25 gb. of data :(

A week ago, I condensed all my desktop school work in a folder on my laptop.  I then ran "Time Machine".   Everything worked according to the program... today I'm looking for a cover letter file, and 4 hours in I find that the folder isn't in Time Machine.  WTF???

I'll see what I come up with...

Keywords updated

After finishing the site before graduating, I had forgotten to add the meta tag "keywords"... making it easier for search engines like Google to find my site... hopefully it works! :)

After 4 years...
